Protecting you and your family

Forensic Wills is based in Surrey & Sussex. We are run by Jonathan Harris, a qualified will writer and member of the institute of professional will writers.

Jonathan’s background is in financial services – previously an IFA, he now also runs a mortgage brokerage, which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Forensic Wills offers legal advice on wills, will trusts and lasting powers of attorney. Jonathan can also assist in obtaining Grant of Probate.

Why do you need a will?

A will is a legal document which sets out what will happen to your assets after you die.

However, most people don’t have a will or have a basic, insufficient do-it-yourself will which they bought online or off the shelf. While they may feel as though they have ticked the will writing box, it may not actually be fit for purpose because they didn’t seek independent, professional advice.

Others had a comprehensive will once upon a time but have not reviewed it on a regular basis so it’s now hopelessly out of date.

People often wrongly assume that if they don’t have a will their belongings will simply pass onto their family after they die. Or they just don’t want to think about something so gloomy as death so are in denial. Others are put off by the cost of writing a will; perhaps they have been quoted thousands of pounds and can’t afford it.

Common misconceptions

Taking time to protect your loved ones and ensure your assets end up where you want them to not only gives you peace of mind, it saves those you care about from heartbreak and uncertainty later on. While the cheapest of wills are unlikely to be comprehensive enough, it needn’t cost a fortune either.

About us

Why Forensic Wills?

Jonathan is passionate about everyone having a suitable will which ensures their belongings are passed onto their loved ones. Not only that, but any children are adequately provided for and protected via guardianship if relevant.

Jonathan has worked in financial services since 1986, specialising in arranging property finance. One of the first questions he asks clients when arranging a mortgage is: have you got a will and he has been shocked at how many people haven’t sorted out their financial affairs.

Jonathan decided to do something about it, setting up Forensic Wills to offer no-nonsense, sensible advice to clients who want peace of mind.
